I asked our resident business teacher Mr. Chappell the following questions for our weekly spotlight. These are the questions I asked followed by his awnsers.

  1. What is your favorite thing about being an educator?
I love to learn about my students. I’ve said before that I could binge watch shows on Netflix for a month and not get nearly as many interesting stories as I do from just listening and getting to know the people in my classroom.
  1. What is the thing you like the least about being an educator?
It’s tough when I can’t find a way to motivate someone. I want all of my students to be successful, but they have to also want it for themselves.
  1. What are you and your students doing in class right now?
My older kids are working on a series on project related to desirable job skills. We are about to start a project in analytics and will be providing some interesting facts about our town and community. Stay tuned.
  1. How do you keep your students engaged?
I feel lucky that most of my content is directly related to skills that can be used out in the real world. I like to first learn what students are interested in doing after high school, and then directing my lessons to how they will use them later in life.
  1. What challenges does your current activity present for you and your students?
They have to thing long term with my assignments. We aren’t just teaching for the here and now. I am preparing them for life.
  1. What is your greatest accomplishment so far this school year?

I haven’t eaten in the cafeteria a single time yet.
